Inidox likes to help you all the way so that you will not be left with – a document, but no place to publish it – a pending wiki, but nobody to install the software – some software, but no server to install it on. Whatever your need, we are always willing to have a look at it and help you to the extend of our capabilities.
Setting up a server
We are happy to help you out with setting up a server. A wiki based on MediaWiki, for instance, does not require a lot from the server, and setting up a low-cost VPS or dedicated server may be the easiest and most economic solution. Even a web space may be sufficient for the purpose. Consider these offerings from our partner Contabo, having data centres in Munich and Nuremberg in Germany. A perfect area for a European server.
Compared to other vendors of VPS, Contabo delivers strong configurations already from the smallest of their packages. Many GB of RAM, large harddisk space, many CPU cores. A VPS is of course a virtual server, meaning that the massive configuration is shared with other VPS – but still you can use your software with an expectation that the strength of this configuration will help it run faster and more reliable than a too small configuration would do.
Our advise is to go for a configuration with SSD unless you know that you will not need it, as this usually speeds up things quite a lot. The smallest of these will cost you from 8.99 € per month, giving you access to 12 GB RAM, 300 GB SSD space, four CPU cores, unlimited network bandwidth at 100 Mbit/s, a fixed IP address, a console for administering the server, and a lot more. You can manage DNS from the control panel and you can reinstall the OS as needed. Various Linux distributions are available for easy installation.
On top of the 8.99 € there may be extra costs, depending on your needs and wishes, for instance for an SSL certificate or a Windows license, or maybe you would prefer a different administration panel. You can also add backup space – a clever choice as IT may break!
A dedicated server is placed in the data center in the same way as a VPS but it is used only by you. The resources are not shared with anyone else, meaning that you have the maximum capabilities of the server at your disposal at all times. This means then that these extra resources are wasted when you do not need them, while in a VPS the utilisation of the resources can be better as one server may benefit from them while another has low activity. But if you want to be sure about what is available, a dedicated server is the way to go.
It doesn’t have to cost a lot. If you would be operating the server from your own facilities it would need a secured room, electricity installation and consumption, network and internet installation and subscription, some staffing for operation, insurance, etc. – but in the Contabo data center all this is arranged for you. And you pay only for renting the installed and physically operating server. For instance you would pay just 59.99 € per monthfor a 6 core Intel i7 server with 80 GB SSD and 2000 GB harddisk, 24 GB of RAM, unlimited network traffic through a 100 MBit/s line, an IP address, a control panel, and a lot more. You can manage DNS from the control panel and you can reinstall the OS as needed. Various Linux distributions are available for easy installation.
On top of the 59.99 € there may be extra costs, depending on your needs and wishes, for instance for an SSL certificate or a Windows license, or maybe you would prefer a different administration panel. You can also add backup space – a clever choice as IT may break! An one-time setup fee may apply if you wish to pay for just a short period at a time.
A small server without any particular requirements for speed or administrability can easily be arranged as a web space. These are placed on shared servers and you cannot know much about the number of CPU cores, the amount of RAM, etc., just that Contabo will make sure that the server and the web space is up and running just about all the time.
This can be very easy to setup and administer, and a very economical way forward: from 2.99 € per month you’ll get 50 GB of disk space, a MySQL access with up to 20 databases (an application like a wiki typically uses one), and a large assortment of features like “Web-disk” that allows you to store and share files in your web space. There is a free web domain included, room for up to 1.000 email addresses, a free SSL certificate covering all your domains, etc., and depending on the size of your web space you will get access to one click installation of a smaller or larger number of applications, for instance from a selection of several wikis, CMS’, project management systems, and more.
You can download your entire installation with a few clicks, as a backup, and there is PHP with a good selection of extensions available and access to use your own php.ini, making most of the common applications run well in this environment. Note, the prices are mentioned for one month but you buy a web space for one year at a time, automatically renewed.
Software installation and configuration
You may for various reasons need assistance with installing or configuring a server application such as Bitrix24, ownCloud, MediaWiki, or others – could be that you would like to benefit from our experience, get some of your work off-loaded to a pair of extra hands during busy times, or perhaps you ran into problems with the software or its environment.
Whatever the need, we are happy to assist. Let us hear about your situation and we will make you an offer based on either a fixed or an hourly rate.
Most of this kind of tasks will take place remote and, hence, will require remote access, unless otherwise agreed. This is one of the great new things that came with fast and reliable internet connections – we all save time, we save the environment from unnecessary car driving, etc.
We work on Windows and Linux server platforms and mainly Windows clients (can handle Mac and Linux too, if needed).
